The minimum investment amount for US investment visas drops from $900,000 to $500,000 – but only for a limited time.
A court ruling has almost halved the investment amount required for an EB-5 visa. The ruling has opened the door to more people looking to obtain permanent residency in the US.
However, the recent change is not final. Those who opposed the decision are working to reinstate the original $900,000 requirement as soon as possible.
What is the EB-5 visa?
The EB-5 visa is issued to those who wish to invest, do business and move to the US.
The programme is highly attractive as it grants permanent residency in the US for you and your family. You can bring your spouse and children under the age of 21 as an investor in the programme.
Some of the benefits include:
- Access to the US education system
- The right to live, work and retire in the US
The EB-5 visa programme grants you and your family a US green card, and the requirements are minimal.
Requirements
Obtaining an EB-5 visa is straightforward. You must meet requirements set out by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
As an investor, you will need to meet the following criteria:
- Invest the required amount (currently $500,000) in a qualifying project
- Create or retain a minimum of 10 full-time positions for qualifying employees
If you would like to find out more about the requirements, it is recommended that you speak with an expert who can guide you through the process.
Limited time
In June 2021, a US federal court ruling meant the required amount for the EB-5 visa dropped from $900,000 to $500,000.
However, a statement has now been filed with the federal court to reinstate the original investment amount of $900,000. This means it looks like it is only a matter of time before the investment amount goes up.
For investors looking to obtain permanent residency in the US, there is a short window to take action.
